2005 Legislative Breakfast Wrap-Up

2005 Legislative Breakfast Wrap-Up - April 20th, 2005

The 17th legislative breakfast was held at the Statehouse on April 20th with nearly one hundred colleagues, students and legislators in attendance. The breakfast is always an outstanding opportunity for us to meet with our legislators and recognize their support of professional issues that directly affect consumers with communication disorders.

Legislator of the Year, Senator Robert Spada, who has experienced a fluctuating hearing loss, spoke about difficulties he encountered and was supportive of speech and hearing issues.

The OSHLA Consumer Award recipient, Scott Kirklin, attended the breakfast and spoke enthusiastically to our group via his Pathfinder communication assistive device. Scott was nominated because of his patient work with speech graduate students for the past seven years as they learn about his Pathfinder.

The Ohio Coalition for Hearing Health Awareness (OCHHA) featured the winning poster for their spring hearing health awareness contest. A $500 savings bond was presented to Colton Moore of Danville Elementary School.

Sponsorship for this event was in part provided by Oticon, Phonak and Gordon Stowe & Associates. The Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center continued their sponsorship of student attendees. We appreciate the support of those who helped make this event successful.
